Wurltizer Foundation Fund was created to support music education programs and enhance the musical arts in and beyond DeKalb County, while at the same time honoring the unique history the Wurlitzer Company played within our community and around the world,” stated Zurbrugg. “This investment in support of music and music education will benefit DeKalb County for generations.”

The Wurlitzer Company, established in 1856 and operating through the mid 1980’s, was an international piano and organ manufacturer with headquarters in DeKalb, Illinois.  Farny R. Wurlitzer and his wife established the Wurlitzer Foundation in the 1940s to further music education and performance around the Midwest. In 2012, the Wurlitzer Foundation Board of Directors converted its operations to a donor advised fund at the DeKalb County Community Foundation.

To be eligible, grant applicants must be a nonprofit or educational organization promoting music or music education. Grants are made for general program support and specific projects. Grant requests will be reviewed and awarded by the Farny R. Wurlitzer Foundation Fund Advisers, under the direction of the DeKalb County Community Foundation. During 2014, $237,445 in Wurlitzer Foundation grants was distributed throughout the Midwest including $38,250 to DeKalb County organizations.
