FREEPORT, IL. – September 14, 2015 – The Freeport Community Foundation Youth Advisory Council is in the process of recruiting members for their 2015-2016 Youth Advisory Council board. In 2009, the Freeport Community Foundation created the Youth Advisory Council (YAC) to promote the involvement of youth in philanthropy and volunteerism. We will be kicking off our 7th year of YAC on October 3, 2015 from noon-1:15 pm in room H210A at the Highland Community College campus. Members must be 14-20 years of age, attend a monthly 1 hour meeting from October through April and have an interest in supporting their community.
The goal of YAC is to empower youth to be involved in decision making, be active participants in leadership and community service and take part in awarding youth-related grants that will improve the quality of life for youth in area communities. By joining YAC, students can make a positive impact on youth and youth-related projects in Northwest Illinois. YAC members learn leadership skills, how to write and review a grant application, team decision-making skills and learn about philanthropy – the giving of time, talent or treasure for the common good!
For more information regarding YAC or to receive the membership application packet, please contact Barb Lessman, YAC Director, or Dan Schmitt, Freeport Community Foundation Executive Director, by calling 815-801-3035 or via email at: [email protected].
